This amazing Navajo third phase woman’s chief’s blanket came into my gallery and though it has considerable damage, it has immense historical value. Based on the types of dye used in the yarn (indigo and cochineal) I can confidently date this weaving as 1870-1890s. Also, the distress and wear indicate that this blanket was worn on many occasions.
