The only option is to restore the phone to factory settings, and either sync your phone to iCloud if you previously synced it, or restore an iCloud or computer backup (or both).

You carrier unlocks it from their end and then you need to restore as new first and then restore the backup. iPhones have never used an unlock code to complete a carrier unlock. Your carrier was apparently uninformed about the unlock process specific to Apple's iPhone.
