Oct 4, 2011 · LiFePO4 has substantially less energy density. all lithium batteries have low internal resistance and discharge at high rates. LiFePO4 are substantially safer with much higher charge cycles. LiFePO4 are used in motorcycle batteries due to safety and most importantly a match voltage wise with 12v charging systems.

This means that it's a more direct replacement for 3.0V primaries, as some lights have compatibility issues with the extra voltage from 3.7V Li-Ions. Depending on the light (i.e. Zebralight), NiMH has some important advantages.

Apr 12, 2011 · LiPos made for cellphones usually have a max discharge rating in the range of 1C - 2C. LiPos made for RC typically range between 10C and 60C continuous rating. Li-Ions made for powertool manufacturers have much higher C rating than 2C. When in doubt check the specs and datasheet for the specific battery model. X.

Oct 18, 2016 · Get a charger that will switch between li-ion (3.7 volt) or LiFePo4 (3.2 volt) and you don't have a problem either way. Again, 16340 is the same battery as RCR123A. Some companies use RCR123A for lithium ion (3.7 volts), some use 16340 for lithium ion (3.7 volts). For Orbtronic, Klarus, and Fenix, it's 16340. For Olight and Nitecore it's RCR123A.

A LiPo could be LiCo, or lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), or something else. You CANNOT assume that a LiPo has a certain voltage without knowing the chemistry of the cell. There is NO difference between 3.6 and 3.7 volt cells.

Of note, the Emoli cells are both safe from explosion/fire and also charge at 3.7V like Li-Ion/LiPo.) Where you get into a charging difference is the A123/Saphion LiFePO4 lower voltage cells.
