I've seen hundreds of pixel art tutorials and so many of them teach you a simple step-by-step process: make an outline, fill it in, then shade. In my opinion, that approach is absolutely incorrect.

I like Gimp for pixel art and Krita for digital painting. Then, to use those arts on your games, you simple import the files into your project and use them like the rtp files.

Apr 20, 2023 · Really any art program can work for pixel art, assuming it lets you use a single-pixel-sized brush. It's all personal preference. I personally have always used Gimp 2.8, which is free and works just fine for my purposes (it's also not even designed for pixel art).
