Federal investigators have found in a report that a large South Carolina jail vastly underreports the violence behind its walls, lets dozens of inmates go unsupervised for long periods and lets crimes

A South Carolina Department of Administration report revealed origins of a $1.8 billion accounting discrepancy that has puzzled lawmakers and residents alike.

This report was supposed to be released on Jan. 1 but was pushed back two weeks due to a need for additional review.
