Much to the joy of some and displeasure of others, snow was falling across Nashville and Middle Tennessee Friday, with many residents likely to see several inches of the white stuff before day's end.

A winter storm warning has been issued for all of Middle Tennessee. While most areas could receive between three to six inches of snow on Friday, some areas could see as much as seven inches.

Mayor Freddie O'Connell and NDOT expressed confidence this week that the city will be ready for the coming winter storm.

At least 46 million people were under a winter storm warning as of Thursday as the storm spreads along the Gulf Coast Friday, according to the weather service. The storm should weaken by Saturday, bringing lighter snow between 1 and 3 inches to parts of the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic and the Ohio Valley before exiting off the Carolinas.
