A new council-backed solar energy farm looks set to be built on 16 acres of fields near Lancaster University, after councillors approved an application for a site near Bailrigg and the West Coast Mainline railway.

Plans to build a new solar farm near Horncastle have been rejected after strong opposition from residents and politicians.

A large solar farm that would have been able to power up to 15,000 homes has been refused by a council, despite a recommendation of approval. The installation would have covered three farm fields on the A14 road near Thrapston in Northamptonshire.
