Third District Judge Matthew Bates signed an execution warrant for Ralph Menzies Wednesday, setting the date for Sept. 5.

Attorneys for Ralph Menzies, who is set to be executed Sept. 5, are seeking clemency from the state parole board, citing his mental health and comments from an initial judge.

Menzies was sentenced to death in 1988 for the kidnapping and murder of 26-year-old Maurine Hunsaker two years prior.
