Three St. Landry Parish schools will be closing their doors after a vote at Thursday evening’s special meeting of the parish school board, and several residents are not happy about it.

The St. Landry Parish (Louisiana) School Board has voted to shutter three schools in the district. The Acadiana Advocate reports that the board action comes after Louisiana's education department told the district it operated too many schools. Closing the schools is expected to save the district $2.5 million a year.

The board voted 10-2 in favor of closing three schools around the parish. The vote is expected to save the district $2.5 million a year.

St. Landry Parish schools are set to follow in the steps of Lafayette Parish with school closures and consolidations. The St. Landry Parish
