As of 5 p.m., the National Hurricane Center designated the area off the Carolinas coast, which has been monitored closely for several days, to Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight. This means this area is not fully sustained on its own and is not fully tropical.

Large parts of England and Wales are battling gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning - as thunderstorm warnings come into effect.

First Alert Chief Meteorologist Mike Burish says heavy showers and thunderstorms will be ending from west to east this evening.
