Britain’s police watchdog is assessing complaints from two women over how the Metropolitan Police handled sex crime allegations they made against the late Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed.

The police watchdog will review how Metropolitan Police officers handled allegations of sexual misconduct against former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will review two cases the Met Police investigated in 2008 and 2013 after the force referred itself.

The first claim over Mohamed Al Fayed’s alleged sex abuse has been launched, with 421 women now making accusations against him. And lawyers warn that will spark a flood of further complaints over the late Harrods tycoon’s behaviour. Former staff claim they were sexually abused or raped by Al Fayed, who owned the store from 1985 to 2010.
