Apple's Mac mini might not always be the star of Apple's show, but it made a major leap this year. Like the rest of Apple's lineup, the Mac mini got an M4 upgrade, which is significant given that the last iteration used the M2 — aka two generations behind the current chips.

The iMac is pretty much the same as the one Apple released last October, which is pretty much the same as the one the company released in 2021. This one just comes with an M4 instead of an M3. That’s not to say it isn’t going to be a very good computer.

With a smaller size and insane processing power, the M4 Mac Mini could become the Apple gaming machine we've been waiting for.

If the rumors are true, the new MacBooks and iMacs fall into the former category: iterative updates. There will likely be no new designs (both have had major redesigns in the past few years), with the biggest changes being the addition of the M4 chip.

With this update, Apple skips over its M3 processor and jumps from the M2 in the previous Mac Mini to the M4. And as we saw with the M4 iMac, the new Mac Mini delivers a minimum of 16GB of RAM to help the computer handle Apple Intelligence and other AI tasks.

The M4 Pro beating the M2 Ultra is impressive because the Mac mini housing the former starts at $1,599, while the Mac Studio housing the latter is a staggering $3,999. In other words, Apple is offering nearly the same level of performance from a very recent high-end desktop computer in a much smaller device that costs just over half as much.

Mac mini, and MacBook Pro. These are the first Macs to feature the M4 chip that Apple introduced earlier this year with the OLED iPad Pro. Unlike the iPad, some of these Macs will get better M4 chip versions, as it’s customary for desktops and laptops.
