Republicans in the Alaska House tried Monday to change a resolution objecting to the renaming of Denali to Mount McKinley into a lengthy list of lavish praise for President Donald Trump, who issued the executive order making the change on his first day back in office a week ago,

The vote came a week after Trump on his first day in office signed an executive order calling for the name to revert to Mount McKinley.

Alaska House members passed a resolution Monday urging President Trump not to rename Mount Denali to Mount Mckinley. Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office that undid a 2015 order from former President Obama naming North America’s highest peak Mount Denali.

The state Senate is expected to quickly agree with the House's request to keep the name as Denali, which would send it to Washington, D.C.
