In a surprising move, Yamaha Motor Corporation has announced its withdrawal from the North American e-bike market by the end of this year. This decision comes amid challenging market conditions and a shift in the company’s strategic focus.
Yamaha offers sales of 60% on e-bikes as it pulls out of U.S. market
Yamaha introduced the world’s first electric power-assist bicycle motor in 1993. But it wasn’t until 2018 that it entered the U.S. e-bike market with a number of all-road, mountain, and fitness/lifestyle e-bikes. That year, it offered four brand new models in the U.S.: Urban Rush, Cross Connect, Cross Core, and YDX Torc.
Yamaha throws in the towel, pulls out of e-bike market in North America
Yamaha has announced to its dealers that it will be pulling its e-bikes out of the North American market at the end of this year. In the meantime, the brand says that it will offer sales of up to 60% off for its remaining inventory and continue to support its e-bikes already sold in the US for at least five more years.
