INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, Ark. – Authorities in Independence County confirmed Monday that the pilot in a Sunday afternoon plane crash died.

A Batesville man was killed Sunday in a plane crash in a rural area of Independence County, authorities said. Steve Carpenter, 70, of Batesville was piloting the plane and died in the crash.
