Republican lawmakers in Massachusetts say it’s time to change the state’s practice of ignoring immigration detainers filed by federal officials.

A proposed bill would give a 36-hour buffer for law enforcement to hold someone beyond their entitled release date if ICE has a detainer on them.

"It's shocking to me," immigration lawyer Randy Feldman said. "It's unusual that federal immigration resources would be expended for a case like this."
