Three St. Landry Parish schools will be closing their doors after a vote at Thursday evening’s special meeting of the parish school board, and several residents are not happy about it.

School Board has voted to shutter three schools in the district. The Acadiana Advocate reports that the board action comes after Louisiana's education department told the district it operated too many schools.

The board voted 10-2 in favor of closing three schools around the parish. The vote is expected to save the district $2.5 million a year.
