David Wright’s legendary career with the New York Mets is celebrated spectacularly. The team announced that his No. 5 jersey will be retired, and he will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Citi Field on July 19.

Wright eventually spent an hour Wednesday revisiting the anecdotes and accolades that made his 14-year career, all with the Mets, worthy of special recognition. New York will retire Wright’s No. 5 in a pre-game ceremony before the 4:10 p.m. game against the Cincinnati Reds on July 19.

David Wright’s No. 5 will be retired by the New York Mets before a July 19 game against Cincinnati. Wright’s number will be the 10th retired by the Mets, the sixth since Steve Cohen bought the team ahead of the 2021 season.

While David Wright will become the 10th player to see his number retired by the Mets, he will be the first who spent his entire career in Flushing.

The Mets will honor their former captain, David Wright, by retiring his No. 5 jersey and inducting him into the team's Hall of Fame.
