Chantal brought heavy, flooding rain and dangerous beach conditions to the Carolinas over the weekend, setting off life-threatening flash flooding Sunday in central parts of North Carolina that killed at least one person.

Two months’ worth of rain fell in central North Carolina on Sunday. Chantal will bring areas of heavy rain to Virginia, Southern Maryland and Delaware on Monday.

Tropical Storm Chantal formed on Saturday as it slowly moved in the Atlantic toward the Carolinas, according to the National Weather Service.
