The vote intensifies a political crisis as the Constitutional Court meets for its first hearing on suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol's short-lived martial law.

Lawmakers from South Korea’s opposition party are planning to vote on Friday to impeach Prime Minister and acting President Han Duck-soo. The country’s National Assembly already impeached and suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier this month for imposing an unpopular martial law in the country.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached by parliament over his abortive attempt at martial law on December 3, 2024. However, a video that social media posts claimed shows his supporters rallying against the impeachment motion is unrelated.
