A procession of winter storms is forecast to bring snow, sleet, ice and potentially flood-inducing rain to sprawling bands of the U.S. this week.

Two major winter storms are expected to hit the Midwest this week, with moderate to heavy snowfall in the Chicago area. Between the two storms, residents could see close to a foot of snow from Wednesday through Saturday.

Back-to-back storms are bringing ice, flooding, and freezing rain to 90 million people from New York to Colorado. The National Guard has been deployed in Virginia, where a state of emergency is in effect.

A wintry mess was bearing down on mid-Atlantic states Tuesday with forecasts of significant snow and ice accumulations prompting warnings of potential power outages. Travel will become treacherous Tuesday through early Wednesday in much of Virginia and West Virginia the National Weather Service said.

Wintry weather is coming, and with Governor Glenn Youngkin's state of emergency declaration, everyone in the commonwealth is gearing up for swift and efficient responses.
