ESPN's Jeff Passan confirmed MLB is investigating Ortiz for gambling-related activities. Per Passan and David Purdum, the source of the investigation are two pitches Ortiz threw in starts against the Seattle Mariners on June 15 and St. Louis Cardinals on June 27 that were flagged to sportsbooks by betting-integrity firm IC360.

Luis Ortiz is currently on paid leave as Major League Baseball investigates gambling allegations against the Cleveland Guardians pitcher. It turns out the investigation was prompted by two individual pitches.

"The Guardians have been notified by Major League Baseball that Luis Ortiz has been placed on leave per an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing league investigation," the statement said. "The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time and will respect the league's confidential investigative process."
