Volcano Watch: Kīlauea summit erupts again
“Volcano Watch” is a weekly article and activity update written by U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists and affiliates. Kīlauea volcano on Hawai‘i Island began erupting again Dec. 23. This is the 8th eruption of Kīlauea and 6th within Kaluapele, the summit caldera of the volcano, since 2020.

Kilauea began erupting around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning local time at the base of the Halemaumau Crater within the summit caldera after elevated seismic activity was detected overnight.
