While Jerry Jones may be refusing to negotiate with star pass rusher Micah Parsons on principle, the Cincinnati Bengals have an equally tough contract situation with 17.5-sack man Trey Hendrickson. The All-Pro pass rusher is seeking a contract extension that the team has been reluctant to give.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor downplayed any defensive concerns, noting that they have been vanilla in the preseason under new defensive coordinator Al Golden ahead of Week 1 in Cleveland. But he also believes there’s reason to take the preseason with a grain of salt.

“I have no doubt the Raiders are the frontrunners," an NFL executive told Carpenter. "Tom Brady and Mark Davis want to win now, and John (Spytek) has no fear when it comes to making bold moves. The kid (Hendrickson is 30), that move is the mentality of Pete Carroll; he’s not afraid of anything that could improve the team.”
