As a powerful earthquake struck Tibet, killing 95 people on Tuesday (January 7), tremors were felt as far as Delhi and Bihar. But why is it that India’s capital frequently experiences seismic activity?

Several areas in Bihar were jolted by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Tibet-Nepal border, on Tuesday morning. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake measured a magnitude of 7.1 while China recorded the magnitude as 6.

The earthquake, centred at a depth of 10 kilometres, caused tremors in Bihar and several parts of north India, the official said.
