WEBJul 27, 2016 · 5. The red channel has way too much gain on tap. This is the third reason (besides EQ and playing volume) that people think it sounds fizzy -- they have too much gain dialed in, and it might be Marshall's fault for putting it there. The higher gain settings just don't really work.

Another key factor if the amp model doesn't have enough gain is to put a Tubescreamer/DS-1/Rat modeled distortion pedal in front with the level/volume all the way up. The gain at 0 (or maybe up a bit if you need more gain) and the tone control somewhere around 3-5.

However I found it even low gain for a Plexi sound. I ran pedals with that model, and it was superb. Probably the best pedal platform I've ever used.
